Last Friday Night... [Adventures in Traveling]

Last Friday night, my Business Man and I started the journey home to visit our families for Easter. It's about 390 miles, and usually takes about 6 hours. No big deal. Well, usually , it's no big deal. Until we hit traffic about 120 miles from the Bean Town. And sat there. And sat there. And sat there some more. We moved 2.5 miles in 2.5 hours. No joke. We had one opportunity to make an [illegal] U-turn about 20 minutes in, but we thought that it would certainly  clear up soon. Hmmmph. Now, I wasn't too upset at first, because I was busy reading my book for book club next week. That is, until it had been multiple hours, and I started to get hungry. Like Iran21milesthismorningandcanonlyeatsomanyReeseseggs  hungry. Yes... the one time I didn't pack a cooler full of snacks is the time we get stuck in traffic for 2.5 hours. Let's just say I wasn't the most pleasant person to be in a car with. Finally, we made it up to another [illegal] U-turn spot, and ...

Viva Las Vegas

We are home. Finally. Note to self : the red-eye flight is never a good idea. Sleep is much more valuable than a few more hours of vacay. On the other hand, we had a wonderful whirlwind trip! I was only in Las Vegas for about 48 hours, and to be honest, that was plenty . It was a bit... overwhelming. Large crowds sometimes freak me out and it was hard to avoid them. We stayed at the Bellagio  which was beautiful. Everything about it, from the Chihuly glass in the entrance, to the indoor gardens, to the pool, was pretty awesome. Poolside.  Fall decorations, but not fall temperatures :-/  Pretty ceiling. And random man in the background, haha. On Friday (after my disastrous run ), we had a few business events to attend, including a fun-filled night at the fair. Okay, it wasn't really a 'business' event, but it was a 'for-fun' event sponsored by my Business Man's business. We headed out by shuttle to the UNLV football stadium for night of...

What Happens in Vegas...

Hi friends. I made it here alive and well. We are off to spend the last day sightseeing with one of my college BFF's and I just wanted to share with you a funny story. Yesterday morning I decided to start my day off with a run before attending a conference with my Business Man. I really wanted to run down the strip, but it's a bit crazy out there and I chickened out. And my Business man didn't really feel comfortable letting me gallivant down the street of crazies all by myself. (Just another reason why he  needs to pick up running.) So, around 6am, I took myself to the hotel gym to get in some quality miles with the treadmill. I jokingly made a comment to my Business Man to come look for me if I wasn't back in an hour and a half. Little did I know. After my lovely 7 miles (that were a little rough due to the altitude) I made my way back upstairs, to floor #12. And then I started to panic. "What room are we staying in!? AHH!" I could not remem...

Roadtrip

This afternoon my Business Man and I packed up our bags and are headed west to make the 6-hour trek home. We didn’t quite leave the Bean Town at the time we originally intended, so it’s gonna be a late night. (I’m currently typing this in the car in Microsoft Word. If only we had such fancy things as iPads or wireless cards... sigh.) Road trips are pretty fun… this one has been especially so. My Business Man was gone on a business trip pretty much all of last week so we’ve had some forced QT here in the car. Nothing says “I love you” like belting your guts out to Lady Gaga together. Not that we know her songs by heart or anything. Anyways, we decided to drive a ways before trying to stop for dinner. Ya know, to break up the drive. I got to drive first which meant I got to pick where we stopped. So, I’m thinking it needs to be semi-healthy, since I’m racing a 10km tomorrow morning, bright & early. So we found a Quizno’s and I was very excited! Love Quizno’s! yay Quiz...

Whirlwind of a Weekend

Man, has this been a weekend or what! I have been road-tripping all across the Midwest, for a bachelorette party and visits with friends and family . I don't think I've sat down at a computer for over 3 days! Which is a good thing for sure. I started off Friday morning by meeting up with my friend Michelle so we could drive down to Edwardsville, IL together. She and her twin (Jen, who is getting married in 12 days!) are starting grad school at SIUE next week.  They were both moving all their stuff into their new apartments on Friday and happened to wear the same exact outfit! Without even talking to each other. It must be a twin thing or something... Once we got them all moved in, we went for a run of course. That is one of the best things about running friends - when you're together you never have to worry about getting a run in. Some of our best memories are from runs during college, so we always have to catch up by going for a run. Talking while running is...

Home, sweet home

Hey guys! It feels so good to be back! After our jaunt to Wisconsin, I headed off to a 3-day staff retreat for my high school to get geared up for the new school year. (Down to just 20 days until the first day of school... ahhh!) Unfortunately, the internet service at the state park we were retreating at was a bit sub-par, so I had no blogging opportunities. Oh wells. :) Let's pick up and recap the last few days of vacay! On Saturday morning, we headed down to the dock where my Business Man and I got engaged 2 years ago.  Cheesy lovey-dovey pictures were a must. In addition to reminiscing our sweet engagement, we were there for another reason - a sail boat ride !  I'd never been sailing and didn't quite know what to expect, but I loved it! We went out for about 2 hours on a small sailboat (called Scuppers !) with a guide and another couple. It was the most beautiful day - about 75*F and sunny. The breeze coming up off the lake was wonderful. I c...
