a day in the life

1:50am - James wakes up, time to eat. We are both back to bed in less than 30 minutes. Yesssss. 5:10am -   James wakes up, again. Woo hoo! We made it over 3 hours. While nursing, I finish the last of my box of Scooby Snack graham cracker sticks. My Business Man makes fun of me for keeping a snack stash in the nursery, but that hunger in the middle of the night is intense! 6:30am  - James starts to stir... how can he be up again already? I'm hoping he'll go back to sleep. And he does. Unfortunately I don't... so I get up and get a shower while I can. 7:15am  - James is still sleeping so I start on my cupcake list for the day. This week is a little out of control with cupcake orders... (aka I just need to learn to say 'no'. Ha.) I'm a little nervous today, because one of my big orders is picking up at 1pm, and I'm nervous I won't be able to meet the deadline! My Business Man makes me a cup of coffee while I get to work. Love my coffee. And love my B

back in the swing of things..... hahaha

I guess you could say we are sort in the swing of things... well, we are surviving! I started working a bit last week because CHRISTMAS!! How can you run a cupcake business and not be open at Christmas time?!? Cuddling with Mom on the couch in one of his many Christmas outfits. I filled a few small cupcake orders early last week, and James was a champ! He has been napping really  well during the days. He's on a 2.5-3 hour cycle where he will eat, then have 30-40 minutes of awake time, and then down for a nap for anywhere from 1-2 hours. Then repeat. I have been able to get a LOT done during his naps. (Though sometimes all I want to do is take a nap myself. Ha.) Sometimes I even have to wake him up at the 3 hour mark to eat! Unfortunately, that never happens at night time... Kitchen set-up while James is napping... see the monitor in the very very far left of the picture? To the left of the utensil crock. I usually try to have him nap in his crib; hopefully that will

the first two weeks

A certain someone celebrated his 2-week birthday today... how can it be that two weeks have passed in the blink of an eye? But at the same time, it seems like we've had him home with us forever? (Perhaps when you are awake at all hours of the day, it seems like each day has 48 hours instead of 24...) Heading home from the hospital. I don't really have a ton of coherent thoughts, but wanted to jot down what's running through my head so I can look back on it and laugh several months down the road. A little milk drunk after a feeding. The first night home from the hospital was ROUGH. Lol. We had no idea what to expect and I think I woke up once every hour. Either because James needed something, or I just had to stare at him to make sure he was still breathing. (Newsflash to Sara: he will still breathe even when you aren't watching him.) Napping in his big boy crib. He is still sleeping in a bassinet in our room at night. Growing up as an only child, I ha
