40 weeks + is it go time?!

Officially playing the waiting game... we are two days past Poppyseed's due date and patiently awaiting his arrival! We got a bunch of snow overnight and it's been nice to just cuddle up inside the house with nowhere to go and nothing to do. (Fortunately, the hospital is just 4 blocks away, so we shouldn't have any issue getting there when it's time.) 40 weeks on the dot! And might I say I am about ready to burn that hoodie... pretty much the only warm shirt I have that currently fits! I've had the hospital bags packed for 2+ weeks... however I keep taking clothes out of them to wear. A girl needs her yoga pants around the house!  I've spent the last couple days just putzing around the house... cleaning a bit here and there, watching Gilmore Girls, working on some fun recipes in the kitchen. Fancy Cookies & Cream Hot Cocoa ... SO GOOD!! Homemade sourdough bread! This one took some planning ahead, with the starter and all. But now I am ...

39 weeks + the final countdown

Well... 2 days from the big Due Date, and I feel like we're playing a waiting game! Poppyseed is still quite  comfortable inside, and hasn't really shown any signs of making his appearance. 39 weeks + 4 days and rocking the winter coat. How is it 27*F outside in November??!? I had my 39 week appointment on Tuesday, and got to have a surprise ultrasound! After a routine non-stress test, my doctor wanted to check the level of amniotic fluid, just to be sure he was still doing ok in there. (Good news: everything is great!) I got to see his little squishy face, and it was just what I needed! I know that I'm probably the only one who sees this and immediately thinks " ohmyupercutebabyface! " My Business Man had a hard time figuring out what was what, ha. Not much else is new... just waiting on our little man. I am officially *done* baking cupcakes after this Saturday, so I might have a bit of extra free time next week while we wait for this little kid...

38 weeks + post-baby plans

I figured I better hurry up and write this week's blog post, considering I'll be 39 weeks (full term) tomorrow! To say I am excited about that would be an understatement. He could come any day now... or he could camp out in my uterus for another 2.5 weeks. Lovely. Now that he's seriously almost here, I've started to think about post-baby plans. One of the challenges of running your own business or being self-employed - how does maternity leave work? How much time do I want to take off? Not only does time off mean no income, but it also means lack of growth with the business.  In the baking biz, the time of year definitely  makes a difference... November and December sales are quite  different than the months of January or July. (Aka Nov/Dec = super busy... January not so much.) So, as you can see Poppyseed has timed his arrival pretty much perfectly. ;)  When the business is in full swing, I work about probably 45-50 hours a week spread out ove...

37 weeks + Poppyseed's nursery

We are getting there. At least I hope so! I have been having some contractions but nothing regular. I had my 37 week check-up on Tuesday, and all is going well. Poppyseed is head-down (which is good!) and growing right on track, and I am making a little progress in the labor department. She didn't really have any insight as to when he would make his appearance. I guess he'll come when he's ready! I've been keeping myself busy this week with Halloween cupcakes... a few of my customers think I'm crazy for still working. But what else am I gonna do with my time? I'm going crazy enough as it is! 37 weeks + 5 days We finally have gotten the nursery pretty much all put together. I thought I would share some pics, because I know you are all dying to see Poppyseed's orange & teal elephant-themed room. Ha. We turned the littlest bedroom (which is right across the hall from ours) into his nursery. It's super small, and the closet is pretty mu...

35/36 weeks + showers and donuts

I had high hopes of doing a new blog post each week throughout this pregnancy... and I was so close! I got too far behind though so I am combining these two weeks together. Such is life.  36 weeks + 4 days Poppyseed is pretty much all the way developed... he just has to keep growing and plump up a bit. Gotta make sure he'll have some chubby cheeks! He's been doing great, moving around a lot, and measuring right on track.  A little fun with PicMonkey. And I thought I had a belly at 15 weeks. HA! I now go to the doctor once a week. Eeek! It's funny... my Business Man and I were talking earlier this week about how his birth has always seemed so far away in the distance. And now it's just about 3 weeks away (give or take). Things are getting real!  Two weekends ago, my friends here in the Bean Town threw us a baby shower. It was at my friend Lindsey 's house, and it was so fun! The girls went above and beyond with every detail, with everything from...

34 weeks + the week where I baked ALL the cupcakes

I'd been dreading getting to 34 weeks for the last couple months... for no other reason than it was a jam-packed crazy busy week! I would have dreaded this week if I wasn't pregnant, let alone being 8 months along...  As soon as we got back from Michigan, I pretty much jumped into nonstop baking for the next several days. I had to bake cupcakes for two weddings on Saturday, plus a big homecoming celebration at church on Sunday. Plus the usual weekly orders and cupcake counter duties. In addition, my Business Man left early Wednesday morning for a work conference in Las Vegas for the week. (How rude!) ;) Luckily, I had help with the cupcakes for church. My friend Lindsey was a real trooper and helped start to finish, and a few other ladies from our Sunday School class helped frost the cupcakes and clean up. (I don't think I washed one single dish!) I stole this picture from Lindsey's blog. I think I wanted to smack someone with that cupcake scoop, h...

33 weeks + escape to that place up north

Slowly getting closer... feels like we are finally almost  to the end! Poppyseed is over 4 pounds now, and at least 17 inches long. All that's left really to do is to chub him up a bit before he's ready to make his entrance! Fortunately, he's shifted or something, because I am feeling TONS better! My back pain is minimal, and my hips are only a little sore. I still haven't attempted any running (not worth having crazy pain again!), but am so happy to be able to go about my daily routine/tasks without so much pain. 33 weeks! The big highlight of this week was definitely our getaway to Michigan... a 'babymoon' of sorts. (Barf, I hate that term. Ha.) We stayed at Castle in the Country in Allegan, which is our go-to place when heading to the mitten. We stayed there on our honeymoon, and like to go back every year or two to enjoy some 'us' time. We have never been to Michigan in the fall, and it was a gorgeous time of year to be there. Beautif...

32 weeks + hot dogs & squash

Poppyseed is almost 4 pounds this week! (Well, supposedly.) I had my 32 week check-up on Tuesday, and all is going well. I have been really blessed with a healthy pregnancy on Poppyseed's side of things... he has been doing GREAT. (Just his momma who has to deal with all the side effects, haha.) Luckily, my back has been feeling a lot  better. It's just more general lower back pain vs. the super sharp pain in my SI joint. I can definitely handle general muscle/joint soreness.  Busted out the leggings this week! I actually love this outfit. Nothing super exciting happened this week... pretty much a boring week in the pregnancy world. I definitely do not forget that I am pregnant though - he is moving all the time . I have also been having a few Braxton Hicks contractions, which are a little uncomfortable, but really not a big deal. They give me an excuse to go lay down for awhile. ;) Our friends had us over one night for a bonfire and wienie roast. Let me say, I...
