Door County, the wonderful land of cherries and running

Okay, I might have added that last tidbit on that phrase. Definitely the land of cherries, but maybe only the land of running to me.

Car ride iced mocha... sporting the Door County tee. Lots of excitement.
My Business Man and I drove a little over halfway to Door County last night and spent the night in Kenosha, Wisconsin. This morning we made the final 4-hour trek up north!

My parents have a timeshare up here at Little Sweden in Fish Creek, Wisconsin. We've been coming up ever since I was a little girl, and I just love it here. My Business Man has been along in 2008 and 2009 (when we got engaged), and has also visited as a kid.

Valkommen!
At Little Sweden, we have a half-log cabin all to ourselves. Living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths. We could fit a lot of people here if we tried.

With a pull-out couch even! And cable TV! This is the life.

Dining room & kitchen.

My Business Man and I's room. Yup, we've got two beds. I guess if we get mad at each other we can have our separate sleeping spaces.

Loft area with futon.

Master bedroom where my parents sleep... one day we will get to stay up here.
Sun porch... awesome place to sit and read. Or drink iced coffee. Or do anything really.
It's completely equipped with pretty much everything you could want. Grills, tennis courts, swimming pool, hiking/running trails, and of course the beloved wireless internet.

Back patio with trail going across behind.
First thing we did when we got into town was to hit up the local cherry goods store for some... well, cherry goods. Dried cherry nut mix, cherry juice, fresh rainier cherries, cherry cheese spread, and dark chocolate-covered dried cherries. We don't joke about the cherry food items.

Second thing on the agenda? Go for a RUN! I love running up here. There's beautiful trails, beautiful houses... did I mention that Lake Michigan is basically within view at all times?

I went for an easy 5 miles before coming back to a pre-dinner 'mocktail' of sorts.

So refreshing! And definitely healthy for you... cherries have loads of antioxidants.

I swear there's no vodka in there... I'm just squinty. :)
We're gonna grill out tonite and head into town for some shopping and ice cream eating... yum!

Now I'm REEEEALLY eager to go on vacation. We go to Wisconsin (Rice Lake, Chetek) in September and I just can't wait! There's something about those vacation cabins... nothing but great memories! Love it!

The place looks beautiful! Careful with the cherries though...too much sorbitol will send you for a different sort of run...

P.S. By the way, I read your blog more often than I read Pioneer Woman nowadays. You should be proud :)

The Arrival of Something New...

Woo hoo for the last Friday of the school year! And only one more day of school next week. (And then a couple teacher workshops...) Another reason to be excited? Our fridge came today!! Isn't she a beauty? It is so nice to have a fridge again. You don't realize how much you miss a full-size refrigerator until you go a couple weeks without it. A bit bare... but that can be solved easily. Bottom-drawer freezer, containing the essentials: moose tracks & Diet Dew trying to get cold asap. Anyways, I'm just popping in to share my beautiful new appliance. The baking monster has taken over, and I'm in the midst of making 150 cupcakes for a graduation party tomorrow.  First big baking project in the new kitchen! I'm loving all the counter space. Mmm... chocolate buttercream! Making good use of the baking nook! :) Adios!

Samoa-what?

So. Last night I did some baking. For my Business Man. Leaning tower of... cookie bars? Before I tell you all about it, let's rewind a bit... Last week when I was gone traversing the Midwest , our order of Girl Scout cookies came in. (finally!) They got here on Monday. When I spoke with my Business Man Tuesday night, he informed me that the box of Caramel Delights was gone. Gone! I would have been shocked and horrified and disappointed if I actually liked coconut, but alas I just shook my head and laughed. Those cookies didn't stand a chance with my Business Man locked in the same apartment for any length of time. The real deal. Just to prove his love for Caramel Delights even further, let me tell you this little story. L ast year  I came out to visit one weekend and take the oh-so-enjoyable Praxis tests. We stopped at Family Video after the tests to pick up a few movies for the afternoon/evening. There happened to be some cute lil' Girl Scouts trying ...

Day 8: Brownie-Covered Oreos

Today's cookie recipe has two ingredients. Yup, just two! Brownie mix and a package of Oreos. So simple that my Business Man could make them! I saw this recipe over at Picky-Palate , and immediately had to try it. I love incorporating Oreos into my baked goods. We even had Oreo Cupcakes at our wedding! And who could forget about Oreo Truffles? (Also known as Snowman Poop in my circle of friends...) After tasting them, I must say these are divine! And so simple. Perfect for the chocoholic in your life. (aka me!) The cookie gets a little soft inside the brownie, and it's just a chocolate explosion in your mouth! You will want to have a glass of milk handy. Just have to show off our tree some more! First things first, mix up your brownie mix. If you want a lot of Brownie-covered Oreos, use a large brownie mix. If you don't need as many, use a smaller brownie mix. My favorite brownie mix is Ghiradelli , but it can be kinda pricey. Usually I just buy what's on sale....
